MY FOUR PRIORITIES ARE:

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The city of Maricopa like the state of Arizona is evolving from an agricultural environment to an urban environment; with all the pluses and negatives that may suggest.

No one predicts a rose garden. The national and state economy have been sluggish. Home values may continue to drop, and the number of foreclosures should grow. Clearly, there must be some vitality in our economy that can create jobs. As your Councilman, I will agressively pursue the kind of growth opportunities for Maricopa that I previously achieved successfully. My many years of problem solving at the city, state and private industry level, prepares me to represent on City Council.

GOOD GOVERNMENT

“Transparency” is a word that has become very popular. Whether we are talking about the need for transparency – when World Com, Enron and other companies were robbing their stock holders and employees or transparency when your government representatives lie and mislead. There must be openness and honesty for the common good. Good government for many years has been the jargon of the municipal reform movement. Good government meant government that was honest, impartial, and efficient. Good government should be democratic; concerned with needs and wishes of the low-income and low status elements of the community as much as the middle-class and wealthy. Good government requires a political diagnostic check-up which reveals any and all warts that exist in city government.

PUBLIC SAFETY

As the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police, City of Detroit, I know first-hand that effective police work requires much cooperation and teamwork. A better neighborhood means being surrounded by friendly neighbors, and being assured that you and your family can live in peace and safety. We know that effective law enforcement is impossible without citizens cooperation, citizens interest, and citizens support. Working together, we can do something about crime in community tensions – the threats to the peace and safety to all of us. Our continuing show of interest in the day-to-day operations of our department is as essential to the reduction of crime as the capture of criminals. As the city grows, there will be different precincts and scout car territories for patrolled purposes. This will provide for the most manpower to have the mobility and the communication capability necessary to police the modern metropolis.

TRANSPORTATION

Clearly, every visitor and resident of Maricopa has experienced a transportation problem. Repaving 347 does offer a more comfortable ride to and from the main highways; that should be just the beginning. Future traffic systems should include access to expanded business and recreational areas and allow more roads, and better lighting systems.
